NAVTA and AAHA Team up to Celebrate Technicians and to Help Pets in Need

DENVER — To celebrate National Veterinary Technician Week, October 11-17, 2009, the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) and the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA) will be joining forces to educate the public about the vital role veterinary technicians play in pet health care. In addition to celebrating the importance of veterinary technicians, student chapters of NAVTA will be hosting public events that will benefit the AAHA Helping Pets Fund.

To help promote National Veterinary Technician Week and the accompanying fundraising events, special coverage will be included in AAHA and NAVTA publications and websites. In addition to promoting their profession, the chapter that raises the most funds will receive a celebratory luncheon, courtesy of AAHA.

“We are encouraging NAVTA student chapters to host a fundraising event during October 2009 to raise awareness of the important role veterinary technicians play in the lives of pets,” said Sandy Sponaugle, NAVTA communications director. “The funds raised at these events will benefit the AAHA Helping Pets Fund, which provides grants for emergency and non-elective treatment of pets in need.”

“Veterinary technicians do so much for pets and work closely with veterinarians and pet owners to ensure the best care possible,” said Janice Trumpeter, DVM, AAHA Deputy Executive Director. “We appreciate the great care those in the field provide and the help the students are giving by raising funds for the AAHA Helping Pets Fund.”

This collaboration of NAVTA student chapters, NAVTA, AAHA, and the AAHA Helping Pets Fund is an alignment of the goals of each organization, which each have the interests of pets at the heart of their missions. Each is committed to ensuring the good health of all pets. For more information, please visit www.aahahelpingpets.org or contact the AAHA Helping Pets Fund directly at 866/443-5738.
